Reese’s has been my fave forever, so I appreciate this article describing the differences between these seasonal varieties, since I’m picky about the peanut butter insides.
I used to eat off the chocolate so that I could suck on that delicious inside for a while. I loved that so much that I bought their peanut butter product in hopes it was the same (sadly it’s not…) and so I then contacted them with the idea of a jar of just the inside peanut butter, but was kindly refused as per proper corporate customer support communications that let me know that they appreciate the idea but aren’t following up on it.
Thank you for the thoughtful analysis. Both the architecture of the cup (esp. ridged wall -- suggesting a mechanical gear! (working class hero!)) and the ratio of PB to C work too well to be trifled with. Magnificent mouth feel! But the Marketing Department insists on re-invention every cycle. Bravo, maestro!
You are unfortunately very wrong (I much prefer the holiday versions), but this is such a wonderful essay that your poor taste buds and sinful food preferences are forgiven. I think my main reasons for liking the holiday Reese's so much are that I prefer the softer and more mushy chocolate and peanut butter, and I never quite liked the ridged edges of the original. Something about it is unpleasant to me, I think because I'm more focused on the texture that I dislike than the taste of the chocolate, which is still splendid. But I wish to write as passionately as you do about simple things like this some day. This kind of writing is so silly, and it fills me with joy.
Great post!
